The Marshall Fire burned through Boulder County on December 30, 2021, burning over 1,000 homes and businesses in Marshall, Superior, Louisville and unincorporated Boulder. It is the most destructive wildfire in Colorado’s history. 5280 Magazine’s July 2022 issue covered this topic two-fold: Staff writer Robert Sanchez told the stories of the Marshall Fire survivors in a compelling and heart-wrenching narrative. The feature by editor-in-chief Lindsey B. King was a poignant look at what Marshall Fire survivors learned, and what other Coloradans should know about fire preparedness. I photographed the people in Robert’s narrative. An essay I wrote about my experience is the introduction in Lindsey’s feature.
